I’m Priya, and I am Board Certified in Internal medicine, Obesity medicine and I am also a Physician Nutrition Specialist at the NBPNS.
I am a wife, mother, practicing physician and passionate culinary expert, who has always believed in the concept of food and nutrition being integral to excellent health and longevity. I have been cooking since my teens, learning by watching my mother prep and cook meals from scratch.
My mother inspired me to listen to myself—I knew that in life, I wanted to help people; she suggested medical school, and I knew it was the perfect way to help me achieve my goal. Cooking for myself throughout medical school, experimenting with recipes, and adding my own touches to classic Indian dishes has changed my outlook on how I view food. My mother’s battle with cardiac disease further helped me view food as a medicine. As I began taking care of her, I realized that food has a serious impact on health. I have since that time, focused on building recipes with fresh ingredients and healthy cooking techniques to achieve excellent flavors, and to preserve a maximum emphasis on caloric content and nutritional value, without compromising taste.
You truly are what you eat. Over the years, I’ve found that one way everyone can take an active role in their own health is to EAT WELL—that’s proper nutrition for the body, and delicious flavors for the soul. Today, in addition to practicing medicine, I spend time researching ingredients for their flavor profiles and health benefits in order to create delectable, healthy alternatives to classic recipes. I created Dr. Priya’s Kitchen to share nutritional information about ingredients, topics on health and my philosophy about food. I hope that you keep health and nutrition in center focus, and live long and strong!
